Description: Assists user to locate sprinklers in compliance with NFPA 13, 13R, and 13D.
How To Apply:
After running the app, the following window will appear:
- Unit Selection: Choose between Imperial or Metric units.
- Standard Selection: Select the desired standard edition from the dropdown menu. Specify the standard using the radio button options.
- Sprinkler Type: Choose the appropriate sprinkler type using the radio button options.
- Sprinkler Orientation: Select the desired sprinkler orientation using the radio button options.
- Sprinkler Coverage:
- For Standard Spray Sprinklers, select both spacing and coverage from the dropdown menu.
- For Residential and Extended Coverage sprinklers, select the required spacing.
- Installation Information: Enter the following data in the provided text boxes:
-
- Ceiling elevation from the floor
- Soffit elevation from the floor
- Deflector distance from the ceiling for sidewall sprinklers
- Maximum permitted shadow area
- Drawing Settings:
- Check the box to retain dimensions after placing sprinklers or merging coverage area hatches.
- Adjust sprinkler symbol size, wall/soffit line thickness, and dimension style as needed.
Once you’ve completed the sprinkler data entry form, click “Insert Sprinkler”. The form will close, and you can proceed with sprinkler placement in the AutoCAD environment.
Defining the Room:
- Existing Rooms: If the room has already been defined using the “Define Layout” app, simply click a point within the room to start placing sprinklers.
- New Rooms:
- Rectangular Rooms: Draw a rectangle to define the room’s perimeter.
- Irregular Rooms: Use the “P” key to draw a polyline for irregular room shapes.
Note: The software will automatically check if the ceiling pocket rule is applicable. If it is, a notification will appear, allowing you to apply or ignore the rule.
Placing Sprinklers:
- Pendent/Upright Sprinklers:
- Choose between “Free Movement” or “Under Soffit” placement options.
- Sidewall Sprinklers:
- Select the wall or soffit face as the sprinkler’s baseline.
- Use the “N” key to adjust the sprinkler’s location.
The sprinkler will then appear on the screen, and as the user moves it around, the app will show the area covered in blue. Any areas not covered by the sprinkler will be displayed in red, indicating that water cannot reach those areas due to soffit rules, shadows, or other factors.
Additional Tips:
- Hold down the Ctrl key and move the sprinkler to view obstruction-related information.
- Use the “F” keyword while dragging the sprinkler to fix its position from a specific line.
- Use the “N” keyword to place the current sidewall sprinkler on a new wall.
- If a sprinkler is placed closer than the minimum allowable distance specified by the standard, a ‘CS’ indicator will appear next to it to warn of potential cold soldering.
- Where the standard spray sprinkler with a spacing of 15 ft and Coverage of 225 or 200 ft² are selected in the form, the software will automatically check for the small room rule. If this rule is applicable, a notification will appear, allowing you to apply or ignore it. When you click on the apply button, the sprinkler’s coverage extends 1.5 ft (400 mm) from one side. You can turn the sprinkler to the left or right by pressing the “L” and “R” keys.
Notes:
- The current version of the Sprinkler Layout app is optimized for rooms with rectangular shapes and 0% slope ceilings.
